John Brennan

John Brennan has been a publisher of music books and journals for over 50 years, especially focusing on the pipe-organ, its history, music and construction.
John is also a specialist designer of pipe-organ casework and decoration.

John was born in Oxford where he studied fine art and design at the Oxford School of Art. In 1975, when working as an illustrator and art editor, he founded his own imprint ‘Positif Press’ to publish books, journals and music for the organ. He was a founder member of the British Institute of Organ Studies (BIOS) and has published the Institute’s annual journal since its inception in 1976. In 2002 he obtained an MA in Publishing from Oxford Brookes University. A keen organist, he studied with James Dalton (Queen’s College, Oxford) and John Wellingham.

In 2007 he was awarded a Benemerenti Papal Medal for services to the Catholic Church as Director of Music at Greyfriars, Oxford, for more than four decades.
